Afterschool Funding Exemption
The Miscellaneous Amendments to Education Law passed in the House today, with an amendment that exempts "spending attributable to the district's share of spending for 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school programs." The amendment passed 85 to 53 and sparked much conversation on the floor about the need for cost containment in education. Although the conversation was broad, afterschool was in the forefront and even those in opposition to the amendment spoke out in favor of afterschool.
