Afterschool Funding Exemption
The Miscellaneous Amendments to Education Law passed in the House today, with an amendment that exempts "spending attributable to the district's share of spending for 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school programs." The amendment passed 85 to 53 and sparked much conversation on the floor about the need for cost containment in education. Although the conversation was broad, afterschool was in the forefront and even those in opposition to the amendment spoke out in favor of afterschool. If you're interested in seeing how representatives in your area voted, see the following: http://www.leg.state.vt.us/docs/2010/journal/HJ090320.pdf#page=6 or http://www.leg.state.vt.us/database/status/rcdetail.cfm?Session=2010&RollCallID=27. Emerging Collaboration In Burlington
For nearly two year the Burlington AfterSchool Program has worked with the Burlington Parks an Recreation Department. We piloted a fully collaborative program model at JJ Flynn elementary school this year and are looking forward to expanding this partnership to Champlain, Edmunds and Smith Elementary Schools next school year.
