Monday, October 5th at 11am- KeepingKidsSafeAfterschool- What do we need to do to ensure the physical and emotional safety of the children and youth in our programs? Did you know that there are now problems with kids bullying each other through text messages? Do all your staff members know what to do if an angry adult comes into your program afterschool? Have you checked references on all your instructors and completed the proper background checks? Join this call to review (and update if needed) the VT21C Safety Guidelines and to problem solve any issues or concerns that you have in your own sites. This is an important discussion to have in all our programs and with each other across the state.

Child Care Reimbursement Rate Increase: The Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules (LCAR) will meet in early October to give final approval to changing the fee scale from the 2000 Federal Poverty Level to 2009

Applicant trainings are scheduled for October 9th and 16th, 2009. Letters of Intent are due November 20th, 2009. Applications are due February 12th, 2010.

Message from the Campaign to End Childhood Hunger
Sustainable Funding Source: Over 29,000 children in Vermont rely on free and reduced price school meals. When schools close for the evening, many of these children go home to empty kitchen cupboards. Afterschool program directors who address hunger know that food costs can be burdensome. Fortunately, there are federal nutrition programs that reimburse the cost of nutritious meals and snacks served to children. The Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger will be hosting a workshop titled Add More Flavor to Your Afterschool Program and Get Paid to Do It at the Afterschool Conference on Friday, October 23rd. This workshop will explain how federal nutrition programs can benefit the children in your community and serve as a sustainable source of funding for your afterschool program. To view all workshops:
