New Directors:  Welcome Nicole Miller in Orleans Southwest replacing Jim Carrien.  Welcome Brian O' Grady replacing Lynn Feal Staub for Wings.

A New Directors folder has been added with important nuts and bolts resources specific to folks who are starting out.

Fee structures and the recession:  In more than one conversation last week, it appears that there is a theme that when charges go over $3 for programming in a day in higher poverty areas, attendance of the most needy kids can or is declining, sometimes at alarming rates.  It is crucial to remember that by accepting 21C dollars, "we will not turn away anyone for lack of money."  Is the $3 amount a cut point that many needy families cannot afford?  In two cases, going to $5 had a seriously negative impact.  It is suggested to maintain a fee structure, but to work with families in creative ways to support the program in any way they can while getting fees from those that can afford it.  Please comment in the box below to add your thoughts on this important issue, noting the poverty level of your community, for example within your comment to help inform the issue.

Simplified CACFP Application Available Soon! Taking examples from other states, the Campaign worked with the Child Nutrition Division at the Vermont Department of Education to shorten the lengthy application for the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which had long been cited by providers as a barrier to participation.

The simplified application, shortened from 45 to 9 pages, will help increase CACFP participation, allow providers to enroll faster, begin receiving reimbursements sooner, and bring money into the state that would otherwise be forfeited. It is currently being formatted at the Vermont Department of Education and will go out to interested providers this month!
