IMPORTANT LEGAL INFO

The VTDOE recently updated its August 25, 2009 memo to superintendents, principals, and heads of school regarding educator reporting requirements and access to the child and adult abuse registries maintained by the Agency for Human Services (AHS). The update reflects changes in how to access the child and adult abuse registries, and encourages school districts to use AHS’s automated system as the preferred method of accessing the registries.  Please visit the Department’s Web site at http://education.vermont.gov/new/html/mainpubs.html#reporting_requirements to download a revised copy of the memo.Contact: Chris Sivret at (802) 828-3136 or christina.sivret@state.vt.us

Lights! Camera! Learning!

Afterschool programs throughout Vermont are invited to compete in the 2010 video competition. This year's challenge is to capture "innovative learning" on film. Definitions of "innovative learning" will vary and the video submissions do not need to be long or complicated. The important piece is to capture what children, youth, and students are doing in your program that is fun and exciting and that sparks their minds.

Visit the Vermont Afterschool website (www.vermontafterschool.org) for full competition details. Submissions can be made online using a simple form that is provided and uploading the video entry. Entries will be judged in the following categories: elementary school programs; middle and high school programs; and student-created videos. Programs can submit more than one entry but each entry should be no more than 3-10 minutes and focus on a specific program activity, element, or opportunity.

The competition deadline is February 22, 2010. Winning videos will be featured at the Vermont Afterschool Legislative Day at the Vermont State House on March 25, 2010. Prizes include: Program-packs of six FlipTM video cameras (retail value approximately $1000), cash awards, and/or free conference registrations.
