Here's what I just sent out to all Community Connections site coordinators as a reminder to be careful in the outdoors this time of year. Ginny Burley

Hunting season is coming up. If you will be spending any time in the woods you need to take extra precautions – wear orange (hats, vests) – even strips of flagging tape, anything to increase your visibility. Remember that even if you approach the woods from a school or other “safe” direction, hunters may be coming from an entirely different direction and not even know that there is a school, path, kids, or recreational area nearby. Bullets travel. Here’s the schedule for the next few weeks. Rifle season (tomorrow through Thanksgiving) is by far the most dangerous, but all seasons are worth a heads-up.

Sep 1 2010  - Nov 17 2010                Black Bear Season

Nov 13 2010 - Nov 28 2010              Deer Rifle Season

Dec 4 2010 - Dec 12 2010                Deer Muzzleloader Season

Dec 4 2010 - Dec 12 2010                Deer Bow & Arrow Season              Second Season

Vermont Afterschool Mapping Project

The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence is working on an afterschool mapping project that will pinpoint the location of all afterschool programs throughout the state, identify gaps in service, and provide useful information about each program.  Information gathered will be presented within a sustainability brief that will be released at the Vermont Afterschool Legislative Day on February 23rd (mark your calendars).  In an effort to gather accurate data, surveys were sent to all afterschool directors earlier this month.  In the event that you did not receive a survey, you can download one here (http://vermontafterschool.org/partnerships/mapping-afterschool-in-vermont/, scroll to the bottom of page).  Please return completed surveys to vermontafterschool@gmail.com by Friday, November 5th.  Thanks so much for your help with this project!
