INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO LITERACY
ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPPORTUNITY
Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) Number: 84.215G
Grant Opportunity Number: ED-GRANTS--071112-001
The U.S. Department of Education (Department) is now accepting applications for the new Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) grant program. IAL is designed to develop and improve literacy skills for students from birth through 12th grade within the attendance boundaries of high-need local educational agencies and schools. The Department intends to support innovative programs that promote early literacy for young children, motivate older children to read, and increase student achievement by using school libraries, distributing free books to children and their families, and offering high-quality literacy activities.
This opportunity is for national not-for-profits, local school districts, and charter schools that are considered local education agencies (LEAs) by their State Educational Agency. Additional information about this program and the opportunity for funding is available at the program's Web site: http://www2.ed.gov/programs/innovapproaches-literacy/index.html. Approximately 28 million dollars will be available for funding eligible entities and consortia, and an estimated 30 grants will be awarded under this competition. The Federal Register notice for this opportunity is available at: http://wwwfederalregister.gov.
It is important to note that IAL applicants must use the U.S. Federal Government's Grants.gov applications system to apply, www.Grants.gov. All applicants are encouraged to register early, since the registration process on Grants.gov can take seven or more days. If you have any questions please e-mail Peter Eldridge, Peter.Eldridge@ed.gov, or Melvin Graham, Melvin.Graham@ed.gov, for additional information.
