Elementary School 3rd-4th Grade Trout Program

HI All! The Richmond Elementary School 3rd/4th grade team-taught classes of Portia Senning & Marie Ayer are trying to raise the money needed to purchase equipment for a hands-on learning experience called Trout in the Classroom. The class receives eggs from the state hatchery in the fall and the students help hatch, raise and release the trout into local rivers or streams in the spring. Throughout the school year the fish and their eco-system serve as a teaching tool for a multitude of subjects from chemistry to biology to conservation to mathematics to literature. Though housed in the 3/4 classrooms, this project will undoubtedly benefit the entire RES community by providing a unique learning opportunity that can be shared now and coming years with other classes. While the annual costs are fairly low (~$100) the initial start-up costs are quite high (~$1100). Also if you'd like to read more details about the program, they have an excellent website at http://www.troutintheclassroom.org/.

Be Aware
